It was a privilege to join colleagues and surgical leaders today at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) SA, NT & WA Tri-State Annual Scientific Meeting, held at the iconic Adelaide Oval. This year’s theme, “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants,” beautifully captured the spirit of the event – honouring the legacy of surgical pioneers while embracing the future of innovation and collaboration.
The morning sessions featured a compelling presentation by Teagan Loveridge and Matt Baczyk, who shared practical insights on the Fundamentals of Financial Success for Doctors. Their session covered everything from strategic borrowing and tax fundamentals to long-term wealth planning – empowering medical professionals to take control of their financial futures.
In the afternoon, we were delighted to support the next generation of surgical leaders by awarding a travel grant to Dr Jake Carmody for his presentation, “The Long Lost Stent.” Dr Carmody’s work exemplifies the curiosity and precision that define great surgical practice, and we’re proud to help fa cilitate his continued learning and contribution to the field.
A highlight of the day was meeting Professor Owen Ung the newly appointed President of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), who is visiting Adelaide for the meeting. Professor Ung brings a wealth of experience in breast and endocrine surgery and has been instrumental in improving surgical standards and training within the College. His leadership promises to usher in a new era of excellence and inclusivity across the surgical community.
